A rock fell in the road one day.
It made life difficult. It was in the way!

Strong men could not move it. The army tried and failed.
They were proud of their strength, but their strength failed.

A little girl watched at the edge of the crowd.
“I can move it,” she said (but not very loud).
They laughed at her until she cried.
They laughed at her but she knew she would try.
That night when everyone was in their house,
she went back to the road as quiet as a mouse!
She had an idea she learned in school.
Soon those people would stop their ridicule!

In the morning the rock was not in the way.
On the side of the road it quietly lay.
And next to it the people found a lever
and note that said:
“Because I’m a girl, it doesn’t mean I’m not clever!”
